The Heineken Experience

The former Heineken brewery in Amsterdam, which was in use until 1988, is now home to the so-called “Heineken Experience,” where visitors can learn about the history of one of the world’s most famous beer brands and even taste the famous Dutch Pilsner.

What to expect

The tour lasts about an hour and a half. Featuring four levels of historical and interactive exhibits, the Heineken Experience traces the company’s global journey from its origins in the 19th century as a small business run by the Heineken family, through the birth of one of the world’s best international branding and distribution success stories, to the innovative methods used to brew quality beer today.

Along the way, visitors can see and smell Heineken’s ingredients, taste the pre-brewed “wort” in the old brewhouse, and sample a freshly poured Pilsner in a modern tasting room and “World Bar.”

An interactive “tour” of the brewing process, called “Brew U,” and the opportunity to create a custom bottle of Heineken.

One of the most exciting parts of the tour is the stable tour, an up-close visit with Heineken’s amazing shire horses, which pull the wagons that still help deliver Heineken to parts of the Netherlands.
